Great week at Growing Futures, had 2 groups from KTS Kingswood over two days.The weather was great and the learners cracked on with building planters, for the veg thats ready to come out the poly tunnel, tables, planting out and watering. Learners used power tools, many for the first time and really got a buzz from using the circular saw, even the tutors got involved
Friday City of Bristol engineering students came down and started wiring up the class room.Learners lit the fires using flints, and then set about installing a fuse box and sockets, before having lamb kebabs and piri piri chicken off the BBQ, topping up with salad from the garden, and fresh strawberries for pudding.
Thursday Desmond was at Ujima radio for a meeting with Julz, and confirmed details and food for The Big Green and Black Unplugged Evite on Monday Growing Futures, will take part in a panel question and answer session on air.Also meet up with Clive who is part of the St Pauls carnival committee, he was putting up an exhibit about the history of carnival, he wants to get involved with Growing Futures, linking Bristol’s long history of immigrants growing Fruit and Veg they missed from home.
Joss from CYN dropped in today’s session to talk about their 8-12 year Hillfields group coming in during the summer holidays for a gardening club, which will be starting soon.
The Kitchen at the Station have said they would be happy to take our in season veg from Monday with all monies going back into the project.
